I think print is going down, but not as fast as everyone thinks. There will always, always be people in this world who enjoy it more than reading online…but no doubt it will suffer from here on out.

Electronic media is the way to go, I’m not sure why these dinosaurs resist change. Paper media would have to be free to compete with electronic versions.

Some newspaper companies have opted to provide free online content and have more ads. Others have already been looking at subscriptions. If you ask me I think it is only fair that good content is rewarded and paid for accordingly. Its the only way to maintain the high quality of print media.

The Internet has changed media forever – media and publishing companies need to keep up, or move out of the way. Blogs, wikis, social media etc. are faster, more convenient and more involving – I don’t even remember the last time I bought a paper, and I have no problem paying for online info if the quality is good.

Some ‘old school’ media companies are already charging for access to their online portals, or e-versions of their newspapers or magazines… I don’t see that as a problem, I’d rather pay for a subscription access to The Times or National Geographic and know I was getting great content than trawl through a ton of blogs to find the few gems in there.

However, for actual news (rather than article type journalism) blogs tend to be way faster – I’ll often see stories pop up in my rss reader 24 – 48 hours before they are on the mainstream sites, just because bloggers tend not to have to get past editors, and work all hours… I gues there’s a place for both!

I indubitably agree that the internet is the fastest and most convenient way to get the news. I think that newspapers will be obsolete in the near future. The great advantage of using the internet is that you can read a lot of sources all of the same time compared with the newspaper.

What I like most in the internet is that you can find myriads of information so that you can critically think and weigh down your ideas. So as to the newspaper, there is a tendency that you can be fed up with the writers’ biases on the ideas. On the internet, you can see several ideas. Lastly, there are just a lot of subjects you can find in the internet compare to papers. You can see topics about politics, economics, environment, personal reviews, culture, society and a lot more.

The advantages of fast delivery of news through internet threatens the printing media badly making the need for printed newspapers go down in sales.

I agree print media is somehow affected of the rapid grow of online reading. When you’re surfing the net you might as well read the news since you’re already using internet.

One thing I have thought for a long time that the papers are big dinasours, it takes them so long to get a story out. Sometimes I look at the internet before I leave for the paper at night and can instantly get the news . I go to the paper waiting sometimes for several hours for the truck to bring the papers from Atlanta. It takes hours to get them delivered. By then it is old news atleast to me.

I just read the iPhone and iPod touch are presumed to have the same screen quality. But they don’t, according to some testing and reader feedback the iPod touch’s screen turns black areas somewhat grayish, washed out shadow detail, with absolute blacks appearing shimmery.

The paper edition will lose readers and that can no one do anything about. The way I see it is that online editions is cheaper easier and faster compared to paper editions. And also important aspects are that it’s a ‘greener’ alternative as and you don’t have to store the newspaper. Newspaper who has printed editions should concentrate on the internet edition because they as well as anyone must follow the future. Printed papers and magazines can still survive but they are not in the same situation as daily news papers and attracts another reader.

I have a regular job but have worked part time for the Atlanta Journal Contitution for 10 years now. I knew the day I started that newspapers were on the way out.
Over the years I have seen the circuation go down alot.
I myself get my new off the internet and never even open the paper.
One thing I have thought for a long time that the papers are big dinasours, it takes them so long to get a story out. Sometimes I look at the internet before I leave for the paper at night and can instantly get the news . I go to the paper waiting sometimes for several hours for the truck to bring the papers from Atlanta. It takes hours to get them delivered. By then it is old news atleast to me. Most of the people I deliver to are elder and to be honest are slowly dying out.
The paper itself keeps getting smaller and smaller much less ads than it was just a few year ago.
As for the Atlanta Newspaper just a few year ago it was delivered daily throughout most of the state of Georgia plus some in states like Florida. There have been cuts several times in the last year. Now it is delivered only in the meto Atlanta area. Alot of people have lost jobs full and part time.
That is my view point and it is nice to be able to share it with you. Thank H.M.E.
