Sequim assisted living centers are high quality, although not all are the same of course. Dungeness Courte is one of the best in the area. Sequim is a major retirement haven in the great Northwest, and the Olympic Peninsula is a beautiful environment with the Strait of Juan de Fuca to the north and the Olympic Mountains to the south. It’s a peaceful setting, and the community thrives with some of the most incredible senior citizens you’ll ever meet, including people from all walks of life, some with extraordinary careers and experiences with stories that are fascinating, although you have to pull the stories out of them. We are lucky to have a number of senior services and Sequim assisted living centers, and we are fortunate to have so many Sequim senior services of such high quality.
The staffs at most Sequim assisted living centers is not only highly trained, which you would expect, but also delightfully pleasant and caring. And some of the centers have volunteers who help.
I have been impressed with the large number and quality of volunteers for almost any subject, club, or hobby you can think of. Sequim most definitely has more volunteers for worthy and fun activities than any community this author has ever lived in and by an order of magnitude. What a difference it makes when a club is organized and managed by knowledgeable and experienced leaders, many of whom have been CEOs of large companies.
We are fortunate that there are so many high quality medical facilities in Port Angeles and Sequim, and many high quality centers for assisted living and Alzheimer’s.
I’ve been putting together a directory of Sequim assisted living centers and senior services for the Sequim and Port Angeles area, and while it is a work in progress with constant additions, you can take a peek at what it looks like here. If you know of a senior service or website that should be added, let me know, and I’ll be glad to add it. I’m adding all sites that are of benefit to seniors, so this will be a fairly comprehensive directory when it is complete. There are many Sequim Assisted Living Centers and Sequim Alzheimer’s facilities. We also have quite a few seniors who are accomplished athletes and active hikers, kayakers, bird watchers, and just about any activity you can imagine, so the main directory also includes a section for sports and recreation. The main directory is at:
Sequim Business and Services Directory
You’ll find a growing directory for senior services at:
Senior Services, Assisted Living, Alzheimer’s Centers, Volutneer Services and Clubs
If you had a choice of where to live, I would recommend a Sequim assisted living center.

Advertising real estate for sale has changed dramatically in the past few years. Homeowners who wish to sell their homes can no longer simply rely upon traditional advertising techniques. Listing your home with an agent who inputs your home information into the MLS, runs an ad in the local print newspaper, and maybe a small ad in a real estate magazine is no longer as effective as it used to be. That’s a grand understatement. Television ads and traditional media campaigns are losing their power to sell homes. Perhaps the example of a major player in the real estate industry will make the point better.
Century 21 Real Estate, LLC, comprised of 8,000 offices in 45 countries “pulled its national television advertising in 2009 and invested those resources into online marketing,” according to David Meerman Scott, author of The New Rules of Marketing and PR. Scott goes on to say in his book:
[The Century 21] team learned that people who are in the market to buy or sell a home rely heavily on the Web and that the closer they get to a real estate transaction, the more they use online resources. Many companies spending large amounts of money on television advertising (and other offline marketing such as direct mail, magazine and newspaper advertising, and Yellow Page listings) are afraid to make even partial moves away from their comfort zones and into online marketing and social media.
But consumers (buyers) have already made the move. It’s advertisers and Madison Avenue who cling to traditional media that is expensive and ineffective. Do you have a home for sale in Sequim or Port Angeles? How are you marketing it? Is your advertising campaign relevant to the habits and preferences of buyers today? This very day, perhaps this very minute, someone may be searching for a home like yours in Sequim or Port Angeles online. Are you reaching them? Are you sure?

The age distribution of our population is changing: the elderly segment of the population is increasing. This is due to two factors: increasing longevity and the aging of a large population cohort (e.g., the baby boom and baby boom echo). A person born in 1905 had a life expectancy at birth of 48.7 years (47.3 for men and 50.2 for women). A person who was aged 70 in 2005 would have already outlived the average at birth life expectancy of 61.7 years (59.9 men and 63.9 for women); and a person born in 2000 has a life expectancy of 77.0 years (74.3 for men and 79.7 for women).

Not only are people living longer, but for certain age groups, there are actually more of them. In the post World War II period (1946-1954) the US experienced a large increase in the birthrate, known as the “Baby Boom.†This group is now aged 50-60 and will entering retirement soon. There was drop-off in birth rates after 1954, but a large number of babies were still born in the 1955-1964 period, these individuals now aged 42-51 represent the trailing edge of the baby-boom2. When the baby-boomers began to have children, this created another spike in birthrates beginning in the 1980’s known as the baby-boom echo.
The result of these age demographics is that the estimated median age in Washington state is 36.7 years ( ±0.2 Years) compared with the United States estimate of 36.4 years ( ±0.2). The number residents of Washington State over 65 is growing rapidly. U.S. Census figures indicate a 15.1 percent increase between 1990 and 2000 compared with 12.0 percent nationwide. The Western region of the country generally saw the most rapid growth in the senior population. The state of Washington had the 20th most rapid percentage growth during the 1990s, but only 12 states actually added more seniors during the decade.
