Should I Buy a Home in Sequim Before the Election?

2020 elections

Many retirees are wondering if they should buy a home in Sequim WA before the elections in November of 2020. Today I answer that question. While my opinion has plenty of room for difference of opinion, I thought you might appreciate the thoughts of a long time Sequim real estate buyer’s agent and real estate attorney (ret.).

The point I want to emphasize is that people all over the United States are moving to Sequim, not from Sequim. That is different than much of the country where people are exiting California as fast as they can liquidate all their holdings, and in Colorado where people are either tired of the cold snowy winters or sick of what Colorado has become politically.

I just sold a home to a third generation Seattleite who lived on Capital Hill not far from the Chop Zone. He regularly heard guns shots in the night, and the streets are no longer safe to walk at any time.

I’m talking to a gentlemen who has lived in Homer, Alaska for 30 years, but now is the time for him to leave the harsh climate of the Last Frontier and move closer to civilization, not to mention his adult children and grandchildren.

As many people who are moving to Texas from California, many Texans are moving to Sequim to escape what they call the unbearable heat of the summers. I have sold homes to retirees from New Jersey, West Virginia, Washington D.C., Florida, Illinois, Wisconsin, Nevada, Utah, Idaho, Hawaii, and many other states.

I do have a video to share on this subject, and you might enjoy that.

So here’s the thing. We have a lot of uncertainty in the markets, and that definitely includes the real estate market on a national basis. No one knows with certainty what will happen this November with the elections, the riots, and the threats of impeachment and lawsuits. If the market crashes in late 2020 or in the spring of 2021, what’s your safest bet?

I believe with all my heart that Sequim, Washington is your safest bet, the safest place to own a home, and the safest place to live in any possible scenario during and after the elections. If I were anywhere in America, and I was retired or about to retire, and I wanted to live in a safe and wonderful place where there are no temperature extremes, only 16 inches of rainfall per year, very low crime, and where the quality of life is amazing with friendly people and where every day feels like you’re living in a National Geographic documentary, I would do everything humanly possible to get my current home sold and move to Sequim ASAP.

Even if the market crashes, do you want to be in a home in Los Angeles where crime is skyrocketing and the real estate market tanks and you cannot get your home sold at any price, or would you feel safer if you had sold and own a home in Sequim when chaos hits the fan?

I’m hear to guide you through the entire process as your Sequim Buyer’s Agent.
